How to Check Motherboard Model with CPU-Z
Motherboard identification without opening the case—manufacturer, model, chipset, and BIOS fields.
Steps
- Open CPU-Z and select the Mainboard / Motherboard tab
- Read manufacturer and model
- Note the chipset
- Record BIOS version and BIOS date
- Save or export the values before a BIOS update or board RMA
Why the board model matters
VRM quality, M.2 count, RAM capacity limits, and CPU support lists are board-specific. Knowing the exact motherboard model is required for BIOS updates and for checking whether a new CPU is supported.
BIOS version and date
BIOS version and BIOS date tell you how current firmware is. When a new CPU generation needs an updated BIOS, these two fields are what support articles ask for first.
